Question:

What are the equipment maintenance requirements for each of the components in a powder coating system (washer, dry-off oven, cure oven and conveyor system)? J.D.

Answer:

My first suggestion is to contact the company that you bought your equipment from. It should have a recommended maintenance schedule that suits its equipment. If you don't have any luck, the following should be done:

. Lubricate all bearings on all pumps, fans, conveyor wheels, rollers, etc. each month.
. Check all belts on all fans, conveyor drives, compressors, etc. each month.
. Check all safety interlocks for all burners (flame rods, fan air switches, etc.) each week.
. Check all gas valve train devices each month.

A more complete list of maintenance items is included in Powder Coating, The Complete Finisher's Handbook, edited by Nicholas Liberto, published by PCI. Contact the Powder Coating Institute or our office for a copy.
